Rock for Food

In an effort to hit 2 birds/turkeys with one stone (rock out and save the world), Boathouse Records and Vprod are teaming up to sponsor a food drive called Rock for Food, with their Nov. 19 all ages show at 7pm Saturday at The Kearny Irish American Association, 95 Kearny Avenue Kearny, NJ. Who knows more about hunger than starving artists right? Apparently and in all seriousness, The Community FoodBank of New Jersey does:

43% of the people who receive food from the Community FoodBank of NJ are children and 10% are elderly. 18% of clients with children said that their children sometimes skipped meals because there was not enough money for food during the previous 12 months. “Hunger in America 2010,” Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s Local Report

Community Food Bank of New Jersey supplies food to feeding programs at some 1,500 non-profit charities in 19 New Jersey Counties. The charities include soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, food banks, after school programs and senior centers among others. Many of those who are helped require temporary assistance – a hand up due to a sudden illness, a loss of a job, or some other catastrophe. Others, because of their circumstances, will always require assistance.

Boathouse is discounting entry $1 off with a donation of non-perishable food, which will donated to NJ Foodbank. The bands: The Allupons, Archis Emerge, Agency of Record, The Rebates & Tiny Fevers, will be competing to see which band can raise the most food, just in time for Thanksgiving…

All Ages, 21+ to drink.
